As the leaders for cyber across defence, Strategic Command has a vital role in ensuring British Armed Forces can exploit the cyber and electromagnetic domain for operational advantage.

Speaking at IT²EC, Wing Commander Paul Withers, Officer Commanding Delivery at the Defence Cyber Academy, shared how Strategic Command is developing skilled cyber operators and analysts for frontline roles.

The Defence Cyber Academy, launched in 2022, is responsible for training cyber specialists from across the Ministry of Defence and educating leaders on the opportunities and risks presented by cyber.

The Academy offers personalised learning solutions, from traditional classroom-based learning to gamification and online training, to ensure all personnel have the opportunity to develop the necessary skills for modern warfare.

Members of the Defence Experimentation and Wargaming Hub, opened earlier this year, attended the event to demonstrate how wargaming offers a safe and structured way to test military scenarios and develop strategic thinking.

Attendees were able to take part in a live wargame scenario, demonstrated through Bohemia’s VBS-4 system and developed in conjunction with the British Army’s Land Warfare Centre.
