GKN Aerospace Filton wins at Bristol and Bath Apprenticeship Awards

GKN Aerospace's Filton site has been named Large Employer of the Year for the third time in the past four annual Bristol and Bath Apprentice awards.

Above: The GKN Aerospace - Filton team went on stage to collect the award, which was sponsored by Airbus.

The award was given at a ceremony on Sunday night, with the Filton Training and Development team taking to the stage to collect the trophy.

Mike Platt, General Manager Filton and Western Approach said: "This award shows our continued commitment to supporting apprenticeships and is great recognition of GKN Aerospace as an outstanding employer in the region.

GKN Aerospace Filton and Western Approach currently have 94 apprentices being trained through its Advanced, Technician and Higher apprenticeship schemes, bringing the total number of apprentices trained since 2009 to 158.

Analysis from aviation intelligence company IBA, has found that global aviation carbon intensity improved from 860 gCO₂ per revenue tonne-kilometre (RTK) in 2018 to 690 gCO₂/RTK by September 2025 - an efficiency improvement of 20% - but that flight activity growth is offsetting those operational gains.
