Aviation sector takes to tesa tape

A transparent double-sided tape consisting of a PET backing and a tackified acrylic adhesive developed for especially demanding applications involving heavy stress, high temperatures and critical substrates, tesa 4965, is finding increasing acceptance in the aviation sector for permanent mounting of parts and panels.

High quality double-sided tapes deliver consistent levels of adhesion and are equally reliable on either smooth or rough surfaces. In industries such as aviation, where ease of application, dependability and aesthetic consideration are given equal priority, use of  tesa tapes is increasing.

In the aviation industry tesa 4965 is now used to permanently secure metal or plastic parts – the tackified acrylic composition delivers a secure bond and in addition, offers U/V, ageing and moisture resistance to meet the demanding specification of manufacturers, along with long-term temperature resistance at 100oC, short-term at 200oC.

Panel mounting often requires very high adhesive strength over large areas and here tesa 4965’s capacity to bond either aluminium or plastic onto a range of surfaces including ABS, rubber/EPDM and LSE offers comprehensive coverage of the range of applications.

The product is approved for use in the sector, having passed vertical bunsen burner and flammability tests carried out by SGS-CSTC Ltd in relation to cargo compartment, cabin and miscellaneous materials, comfortably passing the requirements on burn length, flame time and drip flame time.
